 존 에버렛 밀레이  Millais, John Everett

 

1829~1896  영국의 화가.    1848년 친구 로세티, 헌트 등과 라파엘 전파[Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood]를 형성하여, 라파엘로 이후의 대가(大家) 양식의 모방에서 탈피, 회화예술에 자연주의와 정신적 내용의 부활을 주장하였다.  그러나 정밀한 세부묘사와 화려한 색채에 의한 문학적 ·종교적 주제의 작품은 통속적 ·감상적 표현으로 기울었다 후에 이 파를 떠나, 능란한 묘사력을 살려 초상화와 일반적 주제로 세상의 명성을 얻어 아카데미 회장을 역임하기도 하였다.
